Submission Guidelines

The EJA considers articles submitted only via the online system. To submit an article, you will need the following files ready:

Manuscript

You may submit your manuscript as a single MSWord file. Please ensure the title page includes all authors and affiliations both in English and Arabic. A full title, abstract, and short running title are required for submission.

Cover letter

Authors should provide a cover letter stating the contribution of each author if the work is original research or attained from a thesis, related or competing for papers or conflicts of interest. Authors may request a specific editor or reviewer(s), and up to three reviewer exclusions. Requests for exclusion will be honored when possible if the reason is convincing. The cover letter will not be shared with reviewers.

Corresponding author

The corresponding author is responsible for the integrity of all data and text described within the manuscript and providing original data upon request; adherence to all journal policies, including disclosure of related work from all authors; appropriate author contribution descriptions and conflict of interest disclosures from all authors; getting approval from all authors for the contents of the manuscript and submission; and checking accuracy of the proofs.

Resubmission of the article after corrections

Manuscripts must be formatted according to all journal guidelines. General guidelines are included below. Detailed guidelines on the figure and character limits based on article type can be found in our Manuscript types section. Authors should provide high-resolution individual figure files when they resubmit their revised manuscripts.

Response to reviewers

Revised manuscript submissions must include a point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments. The response file should detail how each comment was addressed experimentally and/or textually or why it could not be/was not addressed. The response to reviewers is shared with all reviewers.

Manuscript organization and formatting

The text should he arranged according to the following order: Title page, Abstract, Keywords, Corresponding Author, Introduction,

Material and Methods. Results, Discussion, Conclusions, References, legends of Figures, Arabic Summary (ملخص البحث).

Manuscripts should be type-written on A4 paper size with double spacing, Fonts (Title: size 16 Calibri bold, Headings: size 14 Calibri, body text: 

size 12 Calibri). Please show line numbers on the margin in Microsoft Word, by choosing “Layout” tab, click “Line Numbers” and choose “Restart Each Page”.

Title

  • The title should be less than 100 characters (including spaces). Make the title concise and accessible to a general readership.
  • A condensed running title of less than 50 characters (including spaces) is also needed.

Authors

Full author names must be provided along with their institutional affiliations where the work was done. Names, affiliations, and author order should be checked carefully before submission. If a change of address is imminent for any author, indicate the change and the date effective. Corresponding author(s) must be identified, with ORCID, email, and full mailing address.

Abstract

Abstracts must not exceed 250 words. it should be written in the present tense and refer to the passive form. The abstract should describe the relevant background, key results, and significance of the findings in a way clear to a broad audience. Abstracts should not include references.

Introduction

The Introduction should provide sufficient background to make the article understandable to non-expert readers; it should provide sufficient context to make the significance of the problem studied and the rationale for the experiments clear to a broad audience. The research question or hypotheses tested should be clearly stated.

Materials and methods 

  • Sufficient data to ensure reproducibility of the work should be provided. There are no limits on the length of the materials and methods sections.
    Materials and methods sections should be comprehensive and not simply reference a previous publication for details on how an experiment was performed.
  • Reagents: All antibodies, cell lines, animals, drugs and tools used in the manuscript should be described in full. Please list chemicals and scientific
    instruments used and their manufacturer.
  • Approval of the institutional ethical committee should be mentioned. Attach proof.

 Results

Figures

  • The preferred formats for figures are tiff (.tif) and jpeg (.jpg).
  • Figures should be of high quality 300 dpi or higher. clear, and in good focus.
  • Figure should be sent in the proper orientation as they should appear in the journal.
  • Figures should not be sent in MS Word or PowerPoint files as they become compressed when embedded in these programs and will not be as
    clear and high-resolution as the originals.
  • It is preferred that photomicrographs and photographs have unlabeled scale bars whose length is defined in the legend.
  • Photographs must be scaled to the same extent in all dimensions, e.g. it is not permissible to stretch a photograph in the horizontal dimension
    without applying the same changes to the vertical dimension.
  • You may submit mixed file formats (image1.jpg, image2.tif)
  • Image manipulation in order to alter any information present in the original is not acceptable. No specific feature within the image may be enhanced,
    obscured, moved, removed, or introduced as this will be considered as ethical misconduct.

Figure legends 

Should mention the type of image (e.g., Photograph, photomicrograph, scanning electron micrograph plain radiograph … etc.). A brief listing of main findings should be given, with clear explanation of all symbols and abbreviations used. Magnification and stain should be mentioned when applicable. A scale bar is preferred.

Tables 

  • Tables should be as editable text and not as images.
  • Place tables next to the relevant text in the manuscript.
  • Number tables in the same order as their appearance in the manuscript.
  • Place notes below their table.
  • Please avoid using shading or colors in table cells.

Graphs 

  • Place graph next to the relevant text in the manuscript.
  • Number graphs in the same order as their appearance in the manuscript.
  • Place notes below their graph.

Discussion and conclusions 

  • Should not be a repetition of results.
  • Should cover the following points, preferably in that order: 
  1. How the research question was answered by the results?
  2. Justification of the techniques used and their limitations.
  3. Interpretation of the results and their significance
  4. Discussion of the results with those of previous authors.
  5. Conclusion; what is the impact of the research and/or what needs to be done next.

References:

Ensure that the number of references in the text is equal to that in the reference list.

The Egyptian Journal of Anatomy adopted the Vancouver style starting 1/1/2019. 

In the text: 

  • Write the reference with an Arabic number “in superscript” after the citation.
  • If you reference a source more than once, use the same number you used the first time you referred to that particular source.
  • If you cite several sources in one sentence, cite them as (2-4) to refer to sources 2, 3 and 4 and (2-4,8) to refer to sources 2, 3, 4 and 8.
  • You need to give a reference even when the author's name is stated in the sentence.

In the reference list: 

  • Number all references.
  • Arrange your list in the order in which the references appear in your text.
  • If there are more than 6 authors, list the first 6 authors followed by “et al.”
  • Use official abbreviations for titles of journals (if available).

How to write references in the reference list? 

  • Journal article: Surname Initial(s). Title of the journal article. Title of the journal.   Year of publication; volume number (issue number): page numbers
    of the article.

 Example: Serry HM, Nadim HS. How to cite in Vancouver style: A brief guide. Egy J Anat. 2030;36(3):305-12.

 o   Book: Surname Initial(s). Book title (in italics). Edition - if available. Place:  Publisher; Year.

Fees for publication:

 When the manuscript is declared eligible for review, a reviewing payment of 400 Egyptian pounds should be made to the account of The Egyptian Anatomical Society, Banque Misr, account number 1490001000004154 with the receipt scanned and e-mailed to The Deputy Editor [drhassan_serri@med.asu.edu.eg]. Upon acceptance of the article to be published, a payment estimate based on the number of manuscript pages and the number of figures will be sent to be deposited to the above-mentioned account with emailing a copy of the receipt to The  Deputy Editor [drhassan_serri@med.asu.edu.eg]. After publication, the PDF file can be downloaded and used for printing reprints as needed by the author(s).

Copyright policy: 

The journal allows the author(s) to hold the copyright, and to retain publishing rights without any restrictions.
